Root Canal Treatment London
Root canal treatment is a procedure where a dentist may treat the infected and symptomatic part of a root canal. Sometimes the tooth may be infected or the nerve may be inflamed. In both cases you may experience discomfort and pain. It is our goal to try and save these teeth if a patient is willing to have a root canal treatment performed.
A root canal may be needed as a result of having fractured a tooth, severe decay or sometimes advanced gum disease (also known as periodontitis). At ARCENDO we are suitably equipped in order to deal with the most complex root canal treatments in order to preserve these teeth for the future.
When the tooth has become inflamed or infected it is necessary to remove the nerve and blood supply in the root of a tooth to save it from extraction. Teeth can have one nerve or multiple nerves in their roots. The more nerves the tooth has the more complex the procedure can be and longer to complete. After the nerves of the teeth have been removed the root is then cleaned and filling material otherwise known as a root filling is placed in the roots of the tooth. The tooth is then sealed to create an impervious barrier from the saliva and the rest of the mouth.
When we remove the nerve of the tooth we create a smooth channel from the top of the tooth (crown) to the bottom of the tooth (apex). Once we are happy with this we shape the root canal in such a way that it facilitates deep cleaning of the root canal system. Once we are satisfied that this process has been carried out optimally we dry the canals in order for the root to be filled with gutta percha and sealer.
Root canal treatments can be complex and your general dentist may prefer to refer these cases onto a root canal specialist in order to maximize success. At Arcendo we use operating microscopes in order to gain better results. An operating microscope gives us the ability to see more of the intricate anatomy that can oftentimes be missed by someone who is not routinely using magnification.
What Root canal treatment equipment do you use?
We use a range of specialist equipment in order to maximize your treatment success during root canal treatments. We routinely use a dental microscope to see all the ramifications of a root canal. We use digital radiography in order to lower the radiation needed for good quality image and an electronic apex locator in order to accurately determine the length of most root canal systems. Along with this advanced technology we use the latest in most flexible nickel-titanium rotary files to create a smooth tapered passage in order to facilitate adequate disinfection of the root canal system.
